The Russian company Transmashholding will supply five electric locomotives of the 3ES5K series to Uzbekistan, the press service of the VEB.RF reported.

VEB.RF has opened financing for the project for the supply of five trunk 3ES5K freight electric locomotives manufactured by TMX (Transmashholding JSC, Russian Federation) for Uzbekistan Temir Yollari JSC (Uzbek Railways).

In April 2020, VEB.RF and the National Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan entered into a loan agreement to finance these deliveries.

“Uzbekistan is one of the leading partners of VEB.RF in export projects, and NBU is a reliable partner of VEB.RF. As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Russian-Uzbek trade and economic cooperation, our financial institutions to date have concluded four credit agreements totaling about 188 million euros. The project for the supply of subway cars for the Tashkent Metro, as well as projects for the modernization of energy facilities, are already being successfully implemented. Currently, VEB.RF is at a different stage of elaboration and is currently involved in a number of projects to finance the supply of Russian high-tech products to the Republic of Uzbekistan,” said Daniil Algulyan, Deputy Chairman of VEB.RF.

VEB.RF participates in the implementation of the national project “International Cooperation and Export”, supports projects to promote Russian high-tech exports.

NBU is the largest bank in Uzbekistan, which accounts for about 24% of the assets of the entire banking system of the country. The bank’s current capital is US$1.38 billion, and the Standard & Poors credit rating is BB-, which corresponds to the sovereign rating of Uzbekistan.

Electric locomotives of the 3ES5K series were developed by the All-Russian Research Institute of Electric Locomotive Engineering (VELNII) in Novocherkassk and have been produced since 2004 at the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant, which is part of the Transmashholding CJSC concern, being the largest family of Russian electric locomotives currently manufactured. A modified version of the 2ES5K – 2EL5 electric locomotive, was produced at the Lugansk plant.

As of December 2019, 1531 ES5K electric locomotives of various modifications were produced, and taking into account the 2EL5 modification produced by the Lugansk plant, 1549 were produced. All of them are overwhelmingly operated in Russia in Siberia and the Far East, several 2ES5K locomotives and all 2EL5 are also operated in Ukraine.

Also, on the basis of the ES5K line, a new ES5C line was created with an asynchronous traction drive instead of a collector drive, within the framework of which one electric locomotive 2ES5С and 3ES5С were produced.
